About the Course

The key aspects of any facilities management role are monitoring facilities, developing relationships with colleagues and other parties, and ensuring that health and safety are maintained.  On a day-to-day level, as a Facilities Manager you will be expected to provide a safe and efficient working environment, which is essential to the performance of any business whatever its size.

This Level 3 apprenticeship will equip you with the skills to work efficiently and professionally with a high degree of competence in this field.

Upon completion of this qualification you could be working as a Trainee Facilities Manager or Assistant Facilities Manager, where you would be managing a small team in at least one facility.  Your responsibilities would include business planning, budgeting, health and safety and managements of customer services and relationships.

Typical Job roles within facilities mnagement include; supervisors, coordinators and administrators

What Will I Study?

On this Level 3 route you will cover units on:

  • Understanding facilities management principles, including building administration, contract management and maintenance, communications infrastructure, property strategy and space management
  • Using facilities management practices
  • Financial management, including budgetary and cost control
  • Resource and supply chain management, including procurement
  • Team management, including staff development and performance
  • Health and safety practices, regulations and legislation within a built environment.

What Will I Need?

You will need:

  • To be aged 16 or older
  • To be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week with 20% of your normal working hours set aside for you to complete your training and study
  • GCSEs at grade 4 or above in English and Maths or Functional Skills at Level 2 in English and Maths

All applicants must have an interview and assessment in English and Maths to confirm that the apprenticeship is suitable for them.

Employers may also set additional entry requirements, as a prerequisite to working with them.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Apprenticeships are assessed by classroom study coursework and assessments along with on-the-job practicals. 

What Can I Do After?

This apprenticeship standard aligns with the followingprofessional recognition: Institute of Workplace and FacilitiesManagement for Associate (IWFM)

Completing this apprenticeship programme will enable progression into a widerange of senior roles within the Facilities Management area roles such as a FacilitiesManager, Premises Manager, Energy Services Manager or Contract Manager.
