"An apprenticeship for me was the best route because you get to learn and do work experience. Don’t miss out on the chance, don’t take the advice of people saying an apprenticeship is for those who drop out of university – it’s just another route that you can take and it’s amazing, it’s just a new experience of the world of work."

Why choose an apprenticeship?

So, the best thing about being an apprentice is that you’re not treated like an apprentice, you’re treated the same as everyone else in the office – you’re the employee here to work, do your job, gain experience and trying to reach your goal. Being an apprentice at London Nest is great because it’s such a multicultural team and you get to learn about so many different backgrounds. My short term goal is to become a senior graphic designer; right now I’m just a beginner at London Nest but I’m already doing so much - I’m having a taste of marketing, social media, the back end of the website and not just design which I think is incredible because I want to be able to expand my skills in other sections. My long term goal would be to become an illustrator for a children’s book and I think I would need to succeed more in digital marketing to help me do this.

Originally I was afraid of going to University and I wanted to go down a different route because art wasn’t my main subject so I wanted to find graphic design in another way – an apprenticeship for me was the best route because you get to learn and do work experience. For those who are looking at apprenticeships the advice I would give is don’t miss out on the chance, don’t take the advice of people saying an apprenticeship is for those who drop out of university – it’s just another route that you can take and it’s amazing, it’s just a new experience of the world of work.
